Friday, at last. Not that this has been a bad week (except for my grumpy butt syndrome yesterday morning) I am just glad the weekend is here. Having a WHOLE weekend off is exciting to me. It hasn't happened in a long while. This weekend I hope to hit the Heron Rookery about 20 minutes away, where the herons should be busy

52*, 80% humidity, SSW 17 mph wind, light rain, FLOOD WARNING, FLASH FLOOD WATCH
All the world, except for in shady patches, was revealed yesterday. Expanses of yellow lawn, sidewalks, and roofs were uncovered from their cold crispy blanket and mounded piles of snow. Then the wind began, late, near the midnight witching hour when the coyote crosses through the yard on his nightly hunt and when

It's supposed to be 53* today later. I plan to take advantage of this nice weather, you can beet on it! I was thinking I should go to the heron rookery, to check out the nests today, as March is the best time to view the nest repairs without the confusion of leaves in the way. But Mr. Hyper, after seeing the pictures of the fun I had last

Two birds with the same common name. They are both called Robin. The top photo is the American Robin that Lisa mentioned in a comment..
The lower photo is one of my garden birds, the Common European Robin. They both have red breasts though.
The American Robin is a Song Thrush and state bird of Conneticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Robin Apparently three of the birds have even found their way across the Atlantic Ocean to the UK! They must have been blown over by the trade winds.
The American Robin also made it into the musical Mary Poppins, as a film error building a nest outside their window.
The European Robin is my friend the garden bird who sits on my fence post every day looking into the garden and guarding his territory.
In the UK robins take a starring role every year on traditional Christmas cards. The Rspb loves robins in snowy garden photos. They have been part of the culture since the middle ages, as Robin Redbreast..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Robin I thought they might have been related, but they are totally different species. A tale of two Robins.

Some of y'all may have seen these lists bumping around in the blogger world and so I too will list what makes me happy (or just 8 of them as it takes very little to make ol' girl gone gardening happy). Here they are in no particular order:
1) Starting plants from seed.
Sure, sometimes there is some cursing involved like "Oh crap-noodles! MOLD!" but overall it is an engaging and fun experience.

There is a secret in every garden. Things that most gardeners don't even get to see going on during the times we can't be in the garden. I don't just mean those secretive and shy garden fairies that stay always out of sight but other creatures of the night that might get over looked if they are doing no harm in the garden. You can get a

This is really bugging me. I have several bird books and have looked through them all and can’t identify this bird. I’ve never seen it before and have no clue what it is. As I mentioned in the previous post, I didn’t even realize that I had taken this picture of it until I was doing the photo editing and saw it. I wish I had picked up that Indiana bird book I looked at yesterday at Barnes and Noble. Can anyone identify this one for me?

To-Do
Go ninja some leaves from nice piles in the neighborhood. (Maple for the veggie garden and flower beds, oak for the blueberries) (done)
Ninja some mulch for the tree--there is an abandanded stash along one of the roads here. All I need is a little bit.... (Made my own mulch instead)
Cut back remaining perennials--add leaves to the leaf piling on veggie beds (done)
Clean bird feeder--and
