28*, feels like 19*, 73% humidity, WNW 10 mph wind, cloudy, FLOOD WARNING It was a difficult morning to wake up today. I slept a sound 8 hours, which is more then the norm for me. 6 hours in the winter, and 4-5 hours in the summer is my sleeping schedule. I was tempted to just stay in bed instead of getting myself motivated for the day. After all, I had things to do like feed the animals, water

Since I don't have much in the way of winter interest in my garden yet other then this dwarf arctic blue willow..... I'm going to stay focused on the inside today. My old gal Sasha is in for surgery today, so while the dog is away, I've been doing a bit of spring cleaning. getting rid of a godawful amount of dog hair from the couches and all that. Just seemed like a good idea to do it now while

I have a feeling, I'm going to have to do a LOT of digging this spring...to make more room for all of this stuff! And I'm going to use this opportunity to plead for others to join my Giant Pumpkin Contest! Yes folks, sign up, it's still not to late! I know those of you in more southern climes will be starting yours soon but that's OK! The prize will be awarded when everyone, southern and

Today I got around to separating some of my seedlings-- the catnip and the daylillies. This is bad... Why? because I didn't expect so many, that's why. I misjudged how much space they would take. This was my plan: A shelf for perennial flowers (I already have a shelf and a half plus a kitchen windowsill), a shelf of herbs for my herb garden this year (already there is a half shelf of just catnip

58*, 87% humidity, S 16 mph wind, cloudy, FLOOD WATCH The snow is all gone, the ice is gone, and the air is a reasonable and mild temperature, only to get warmer tomorrow. It drives me nuts. It makes me want to grab the spade and start shoveling and to start weeding and planting and puttering. It's just cruel I tell you. Give me spring fever and then take it away later with more snow and ice.

23*, feels like 13*, 66% humidity, S 9 mph wind, fair I spent 3 days sick (it wasn't a hang over after all, but a case of eating BAD SHRIMP at a party), and so have not started working on my new healthy habits for 08. These habits include everything from eating locally, exercising more (you will have to see my other blog tired soles for this) and getting back on the more sustainable lifestyle

37*, feels like 30*, 75% humidity, NW 10 mph wind, cloudy Yesterday while I was at work we had a skiff of snow fall. It stuck around until about noon before the light dusting melted away. I'm still antsy for lots of snow. Believe it or not, snow shoveling has become one of my favorite chores. It ranks right up there with leaf raking in my book. I just love it. I have fun while I do it, throwing

To-Do Go ninja some leaves from nice piles in the neighborhood. (Maple for the veggie garden and flower beds, oak for the blueberries) (done) Ninja some mulch for the tree--there is an abandanded stash along one of the roads here. All I need is a little bit.... (Made my own mulch instead) Cut back remaining perennials--add leaves to the leaf piling on veggie beds (done) Clean bird feeder--and
