It was a difficult morning to wake up today. I slept a sound 8 hours, which is more then the norm for me. 6 hours in the winter, and 4-5 hours in the summer is my sleeping schedule. I was tempted to just stay in bed instead of getting myself motivated for the day. After all, I had things to do like feed the animals, water

I have some herbs already in the yard, this list will be of new ones I am starting this year.
Catnip- I've already started it in the house. The cats help me keep the seedlings pinched so they will grow bushy. These were Ferris Morris seeds.Peppermint Mentha x piperita-- Already started in the house. I wouldn't mind at all if this escaped into the lawn...The seeds were a freebie from Celestrial

I have a feeling, I'm going to have to do a LOT of digging this spring...to make more room for all of this stuff!
And I'm going to use this opportunity to plead for others to join my Giant Pumpkin Contest! Yes folks, sign up, it's still not to late! I know those of you in more southern climes will be starting yours soon but that's OK! The prize will be awarded when everyone, southern and

If it seems like I'm posting a lot today, it has to do with the fact that I'm antsy. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up and then I will be going hiking, checking out some fens I have heard of by word of mouth up in the dunes. It's supposed to be above freezing today. I'd like to enjoy that so I'm willing to wait a while.

My pepper list is not quite as extensive nor impressive as my tomato list. I think they are just harder to grow for me, and I see much less output for the input I put into them. Still, a fresh organic sweet pepper is better then anything store bought. I grow hot peppers only for my husband, who can eat a habanaro raw. You think I kid, but I

Whats in my seed box for tomatoes this year???
Several new ones. Some seeds I've been given, some I've saved from my own plants year after year, and some came as 'sample packets' from other seed orders, while a couple I have bought myself.
1) Tomato- Supersteak F1 Hybrid (this was a free bee). it says the tomatoes are 2 lb.s each and once slice will cover a slice of bread! We shall see.... It

As you can see, our weather is back to normal seasonal winter crud. I was afraid my outside plants would start thinking that it was time to grow which would be disasterous.
Yesterday I took the first step in raising my own meat here at GGG. Mr. Hyper and I drove up into Michigan to rescue a bunny that was heading for freezer camp with

OK, do you know how hard it is to find local foods this time of year? If it were just me, I could survive on beans and rice if I had to until I found a source of local meat. I'm sure it has to be out there somewhere, after all, there are farms around. But until I can find some, I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and buy meat. You see, Mr. Hyper
