25*, feels like 15*, 45% humidity, NW 10 mph wind, partly cloudy, FLOOD WARNING
Spring is close. I know it now. This morning I woke to that change in the air, that indescribable smell that wakes me every year when the spring switch is thrown. And though the day is most certainly NOT spring like, there was that smell. It's close. It's coming! Speaking of smells, I also got a whiff of summer as

Friday, at last. Not that this has been a bad week (except for my grumpy butt syndrome yesterday morning) I am just glad the weekend is here. Having a WHOLE weekend off is exciting to me. It hasn't happened in a long while. This weekend I hope to hit the Heron Rookery about 20 minutes away, where the herons should be busy

It's supposed to be 53* today later. I plan to take advantage of this nice weather, you can beet on it! I was thinking I should go to the heron rookery, to check out the nests today, as March is the best time to view the nest repairs without the confusion of leaves in the way. But Mr. Hyper, after seeing the pictures of the fun I had last

I don't know about you folks with larger gardens, but those of us with small gardens can't hardly use up a whole packet of veggie seeds all at one time. There usually is some left over for another sowing or two. In the past, I would just fold the seed packets closed, but this has resulted in a whole lot of mystery seed in the bottom of my seed boxes. Sometimes I would tape the seed packets closed

Sasha yesterday was not feeling good at all. She had the dry heaves, trying her best to throw up. I'm blaming the pain meds, I know they do the same thing to me. So I have not given her any today to see how she does though this morning she seems to be feeling better and ate with the appetite of a puppy. Yesterday, she was doing her hardest to get to some

33*, feels like 25*, 89% humidity, SSW 10 mph wind, cloudy
I really am tired of having to say the S word. You know the one. I'm deep in the S. There is a whole new layer of it. But, there is hope! According to the forecast, we MAY hit 41* today. That would be freakin' awesome and the long term forecast sees us hovering at around the freezing mark instead of near 0*. That's freakin' awesome too!

Since I don't have much in the way of winter interest in my garden yet other then this dwarf arctic blue willow.....
I'm going to stay focused on the inside today. My old gal Sasha is in for surgery today, so while the dog is away, I've been doing a bit of spring cleaning. getting rid of a godawful amount of dog hair from the couches and all that. Just seemed like a good idea to do it now while

So much for the taste of spring that we had last weekend! We are now covered in a blanket of snow again, with howling winds. it is said that this is the snowiest year in 30 years. All I know is this is the snowiest winter yet I've had since moving to Indiana. So, in protest and FAITH that spring will return in a timely manner, I sowed

Slim Jim Eggplant--OP from Pinetree Garden Seeds. I've grown eggplants way back in ca, haven't tried growing them in IN. I don't like the big kinds. YUCK and I don't eat enough of them to grow a lot, so slim jim seemed to be the perfect one for me to try.Corn, sweet- Kandy Korn--Not OP, being surround by corn fields makes it darn near impossible to want to save seeds from corn. So I may as well

I have a feeling, I'm going to have to do a LOT of digging this spring...to make more room for all of this stuff!
And I'm going to use this opportunity to plead for others to join my Giant Pumpkin Contest! Yes folks, sign up, it's still not to late! I know those of you in more southern climes will be starting yours soon but that's OK! The prize will be awarded when everyone, southern and
